2. Camera

How can we protect ourselves from stereotypes and prejudices? Getting to know first-hand the realities of migrants and refugees, their experiences and understanding who they are is a good start. Let's open our eyes and ears to hear first-hand witnesses of yesterday and today who have put themselves in front of a camera to share their memories, reflections and experiences.

Descendants of 1939

What was the exile of 1939 like? Was France the only destination of the Retreat? What was the arrival like? How was the reception? How did the following generations live this exile?

Current perspectives

What are the effects of migration on people? Do we listen enough to the people who have experienced them? What are the causes that lead to leaving one’s place of origin? How is the process? What are the desires, needs, emotions and aspirations that come out of it?

Familiar experiences

When we think of people who have migrated, we often think of very specific profiles of people who are far away, who have a certain skin and hair color, who have put their lives in danger to make the journey, who come from a not very favorable economic situation… Or perhaps the profile in our imagination is very different. In any case, these profiles exist, but they do not represent the totality of migrations.

Let us ask our family and we will see that, very likely, we will find some migratory experience; someone who went from the countryside to the city or vice versa, someone who changed region, country or continent. When we find this person, let’s sit down with them and listen to them with curiosity (interview script).
